  1. Ok I went with the Hauppauge USB PVR2, So far it really good, a couple things I don't like the software it comes with and the remote is kinda of cheap, And one more thing how do I use a TV Guide with it, I had TIVO , and I was wondering if there is a program that works with the Hauppauge where I can record what I want, and have a guide,

Also one more question, would like to know if Hauppauge USB PVR2 is better than a ATI capture card, quality etc..

  5. I have no idea what the error message means. I see from their website that it requires a specific version of the PVR USB2 and DirectX 9.

    I don't know..

Have you tried using Ulead Studio software a try ??

I know that the version I got w/ my xpress allowed me to capture from
my other capture cards (ie, ati rage fury pro; dv cam; advc-100 etc)

These apps are usually for "generic" use - different cap cares of all sorts. You
just have to have a properly installed driver (and in most cases, a recignised
codec) But that all depends on various factors.

Well the issue here with the WinTV USB PVR2 is that it is an external HARDWARE MPEG 1/MPEG 2 encoder.

So I am not surprised that capture software is limited.

However I looked very briefly at the website I provided on this product and it does seem as though there are a few options.

Of course once you capture you can then use any program you like in terms of editing or DVD authoring etc.

I have never owned a Hauppauge product, but I can give you an opinion on the old Dazzles and ATI. I used to own a Dazzle USB Digital Video Creator and it was pretty bad, only worked sometimes and captured only short clips. Thankfully I now have an ATI All In Wonder Radeon card and have had no problems with it. I use my computer to capture cable TV and home videos from my camcorder. The ATI software has it's own PVR that comes with plenty of options so you can record MPEG1, 2 or 4.
Just to make things easy on my lazy self I skip the Ulead editing software and use TMPGEnc (free version) to cut the parts I want out of my recordings and put them together again. No DVD burner yet, but Nero makes great VCDs, works for me.
Old home videos are historical documents that may be best used to annoy your children.

What is it you don't like about the Win TV 2000 app? Just the lack of a guide? I just use Yahoo's TV guide. Of course I have to manually enter the time and channel into Wintv2k.

I installed the SageTV software. It seems to work fine with my PVR 250 (PCI card), XP SP2.
