My previous milestone posts have had a fair amount of humor in them. Lord knows I love to laugh, and I love to make others laugh just as much. And OT has provided plenty of both, I hope. 8)

But on this momentous occasion, I wax reflective and offer the following "State of the Capmaster"address combined with a "State of the OT" address. I'll try not to make it too wordy. Oops - lost a few of you already I see. Oh well, hear me out. I'm trying to be serious.

Since my 4,000th post thread on Jul 27, 2004 (OMG, another 1,000 in less than a month) I have seen new members join us here in our beloved OT. We have quite a crew here ......as close to being one big table at the corner tavern as is possible. But we're not just a bunch of clowns here in OT - one doesn't need to skim the OT posts very long to find some real experts in video. And as one poster in the feedback forum pointed out, with experts hanging out in the OT forum, they're readily available should some serious issues come up regarding video. Instead of just logging in when we need questions answered, we're here all the time ...and we're available all the time. Many of us get PMs from non-OT regulars asking for help.

This is something OT critics don't see. Plus, many of us would have moved on once our problems were solved had it not been for the OT forum. We provide a real service here, and it's the funnest forum on the board.

I think that in reality most of us aren't post whores in the strictest sense of the term. True post whores go looking for low-risk threads where they can bump up their count by 1 or 2, and usually reply with "Yeah, me too". We really don't do much of that. The reason we have high post counts is because we post a lot of posts (DUH!). I mean, our posts say something. The subject matter may not fly in grandma's sewing circle, but we speak our minds. And we're here an awful lot socializing with our mates. We vent, rant, rave, share, sympathize, give advice, take advice ..just about everything. I don't see a problem with having an OT, since several of us donate to the board regularly, most of us live by the letter of the AUP, and we step in when we see someone in the other forums getting overly abusive. In short, we're upstanding and supportive members here, and not parasites. Nuff said.

I'm honored to be your elected president, and the class picture was a lot of fun - seeing what everyone really looks like. We should have more of that ...within the bounds of internet safety, that is.

I'm happier now that I have a way to pitch in and help out with "the chores" around here. Many of you were worried that I'd suffer "promotion rebound" after getting promoted, losing my sense of humor, and going on a rampage of yellow-carding everything that moves. Search my OT posts since I've been made mod and you'll see there was nothing to worry about. Will Hay - I'll accept a cashier's check for that bet we made ...sorry, no personal checks.

Not only with the forum, but with the lists maintained of all the video equipment, software, guides, media, etc. There's a lot of work to do keeping all of those current. And I can't imagine all the tasks Baldrick must try to juggle in any given day when you consider that he moderates, writes and modifies PhP code, handles all the other administrative duties that the rest of us have no clue about, and he still has time to offer advice on video matters, settle squabbles, rush to the aid of members that get locked out, and do whatever he does for a living to support his family. It boggles the mind. He's phenomenal. And I see red whenever someone posts about the forum rules not being "fair". All that Baldrick does for them, free of charge, and they still complain. Unbelievable.

We're all fortunate that Baldrick doesn't just say "screw it all ...I'm done with being your whipping boy. You want a forum ...build it your own damn selves" and close up shop.

That's all I should put here. I could go on and on, but I know from experience that a thread's likelihood of being read is inversely proportional to its length.
