A controversy had brewed for months on whether the statue of Big Boy outside the restaurant on Ford Road near the Canton Center would have to be removed due to a township ordinance that allows businesses to have only one sign on its property.

The Canton Big Boy already has a sign on the street, so the statue, which has the word "Big Boy" written on its bib, was considered to be a second sign.

The business was ticketed when it previously ignored a warning to take the Big Boy down, Local 4 reported.

The owners of the Big Boy said they were originally told by the township they could keep the statue standing where it is. But after being ticketed, they say they were confused.

"He is a legend. He is the godfather of American family dining. What went wrong?" said Rana Matar, co-owner of the restaurant.

Officials have now decided that the restaurant can keep its mascot if they paint over the words on the statue.

They should have just left it alone. That's the sign of a local government with nothing better to do!

Big Boys of the world should unite and take the local gov't down. Sounds like a 4th installment of Austin Powers needs to be made.
