  1. Well I just ran out of my ritek g04's and came back to the site to see if anything changed. Well I noticed the prodiscs are becomeing awesome discs. They are much cheaper then riteks. I have a Sony 4x burner 510 one I think. Any1 know if I should have any problems with it?

Anyways here is my question. I am looking to get an Epson R200 color printer to go along with this. Now since Im going to be printing color labels, which color is the best for the OEM DVD look? The silvre or white? Ive read that some1 posted that with the white topped ones you can see the ink is completly straight or something like that? Any suggestions? Also how many dvds should I be able to print on before having to replace a cartridge on the R200?

I have a R200 printer, and have been printing hundreds and hundreds of dvds.

I use both white and silver (Prodisc or BeAll 4x dvd-r), each have a different look. The white, can reproduce almost perfectly, a commercial quality face on the dvd. I finish it off with a spray of clear acrylic (gloss) and it looks awesome.

I also use the silver printables for other projects, like my Stargate series - really neat look, the graphics come out almost holographic. No need to spray them.

I can go through a couple of hundred dvds before I need to change any cartridges. Alot depends on the graphics (how much of the face is covered) and what colors. So far, the ink seems to be being used evenly. I use 3rd party cartridges ($5 each) and so far, so good.

I get my ink cartridges for my Epson R200 at :

    http://www.inkgrabber.com/printers.mhtml?search_for=Stylus%20Photo%20R200

They work well, I just set the gamma to 2.2 and the color matches. They are the way to go, or you might as well buy a new printer when the cartridges run out ( for the prices theat epson wants for the carts).

rr6966 thanks for the link, I will probably give them a try, I totally agree with you on the ridiculous prices on the Epson cartridges.
    Thank You,

  6. I have printed on CD before with label. How do you print on DVD? On a label or directly on the DVD itself? Thx.

    Padre -
What brand of acrylic gloss spray are you using? I've tried a couple of different types, but they seem to "bead up" on the ink surface, giving a kind of pebbled appearance.

    Thanks.

I use Krylon "Low Odor Matt Finish", it is awesome. Low smell and dries in 5 minutes ( two coats). It also comes in Gloss but I haven't tried it yet.

    See Link :

  10. You can get the printable discs from http://www.rima.com if you are closer to the west coast, or http://www.meritline.com/ if you are closer to the east coast. The prices are about the same, but depending on where you are shipping would be the difference.

Actually, this tends to be more an application issue than a product issue. If you find your spraying is 'beading up' then you are spraying too close to the surface and/or are applying too much product at one time.

Back the can away next time. (Spray no closer than 12" from the surface you are spraying) Also note that you should always keep the can moving, don't just point and spray, sweep the can briskly from side to side going past the edge of what you want to cover. Once you have done an application, don't reapply it, even if you look and think you haven't put enough on! Let it dry first, then inspect it and decide. At that time you can put on a second (or third) coat if you want. Better to put on two or three light coats than one heavy coat. Try that and see if you get better results.

Remember, you can always add an extra coat if you apply it too light, but once you have too much on there is no fixing it.

    Regards,

    Savant

  12. I tried a few supposedly "ink jet" compatible silver disks but the ink never seemed to dry and would wash right off, even after allowing them to dry overnight. So I've been using the white ones instead. Any ideas?

YIKES, wash off? I haven't tried the underwater test with regular ink before. Ya mean the white ones can be washed without the ink running?

If you like holographic images, you'll like the ProDisc silve topped inkjet printables. If you don't like holographic images and want to reproduce the DVD as best as possible, use the white topped without the stacking ring

  14. Thanks for the info. What I mean is that the silver ones I tried never dried at all, even after several hours. I know the white ones aren't waterproof, but at least they dry. I like the idea of a "holographic" effect, but I'll have to try the ones you mentioned and see how they work for me...

I already have 250 of the matte. What do you think, will I get a half decent print from the R200? I can get one this weekend for $83. I am not picky, as long as the ink dries and is readable.

  19. Both are very good. Just make sure you get the inkjet printable and not the thermal. When I print on the white I use Photo Quality Glossy Film for the Type and for the silver I use Plain Paper, because it needs the extra ink. For each I adjust the Print Color Correction toward the Lighter as needed. The silver has a holographic like look to it. It works for some labels better than others. As far as drying the ink is water based and can easily be washed off. Don't put them under water or lick them and you will not have any problems.

I'm not really 100% sure...I've read a lot of mixed results. You will definately need to spray krylon on it, becuase the ink wont dry for sure. Where can you get one for $83? I'm in the market myself..

I just ordered some silver printables from Meritline, I will let you
know how they work out. I tried the silver ones from Ridata and
the never dried - two days later, I was able to wipe them clean. I
hope these give better results, plus they give you a complete
satisfaction guaranty, they'll even credit shipping, so you have
    nothing to lose!

  24. I just picked up a r200 as well, after reading so many good reviews, as well as 100 White 4x Prodisc, and 100 Silver 4x Prodisc's. I was going to stick with RiData, but since ProDisc's seems to be getting some rave reviews, I'm going to give them a shot.

I hope those work on my Lite-On 411s.

The r200 didn't come with a cable and as I walked out of Best Buy, 2 different people told me I should buy one (they were like $15 or $25!), but went to the .99 cents store and got two!! HA!

  26. Supermediastore.com has 100 pack Prodisc 4X DVD-R white inkjet printable with paper sleeves for $38 via coupon "d3doff" only. That is the best price I ever seen for this quantity. plus you have paper sleeves to protect your valuable DVDs.

On My Epson 900 DVD Printer, I can get roughly 150 DVD's per set of cartridges. I use cartridges from http://www.monsterinkjets.com/. I am using the default settings with the Epson CD Print software, using ProdiscS03 4X media( I prefer the white). Over 500 printed DVD's with the generic ink and no complaints from my customers so far.

  28. You gotta love monsterinkjets - I still have bottles of ink that (hopefully) I'll never use, cause their cartridges are so inexpensive.

Anyway, I get about the same - 150 on an Epson 900.

As far as the silver vs. white, on my 2510a, with 1 batch of each burned, that the silvers seem to be much better - I had about 5% coasters on the whites, none on the silvers, and the silvers had much better PI/PO scans, as well as many fewer "soft" read errors (DVDInspector).

But again, that's a sample size of 1 batch of 50 each so far.....
