This has been bugging me. CD's corrode, tapes wear out, hard drives fail. we're all doomed.

My favourite album was recorded in 1989, a little ditty called Pretty Hate Machine. I have a copy on CD, LP, MD, audio casette and even MP3s on my jukebox. i also have a CD-r back up. now, i love this album. a lot. i hate to think one day i won't be able to listen to it - something increasingly likely given it's no longer on sale in america.

Maybe i'm just odd, but does anyone else worry about not being able to listen to their favourite tunes in ten or even 60 years time?

  2. I already can't find some of the stuff I listened to in the 90's.

  4. Considering how many times I've bought the same albums over, upgraded or replaced during the past few decades....no, I'm not worried.

Music is becoming easier to replace - there are only very few things that seem to be extinct.

I now have high quality copies taken right from the masters of all my favorite Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac studio takes, demos and outtakes thanks to the Internet - had to settle for cruddy boots before that.
On top of that I have the fullest unedited tracks - and can enjoy 'Silver Springs' the way it should've been released all those years ago.

After hearing more DVD-A masters and mixes of some of my favorite Simple Minds tunes, I just may never want to go back to MP3 or even CD Audio again -
I feel like I'm hearing these for the first time and love the whole sound experience...

Just moved on after trying to track it down for ages. I also just keep an eye out for it.

but a lot of these older releases seem to be remixed or made multi-channel, not in the form you fell in love with years ago.

I still haven't yet found an SACD i actually want to buy

I have like 20 different versions of the same song 8)

I never toss anything out - still have records from the late '60s.

I happen to like different mixes, 'cause it keeps the stuff exciting and I can pick out which versions I like best - one of the reasons I support bootlegs.
If I had to settle for only the legit stuff, I'd never be much of a fan.
You appreciate the stuff more when you get into how the songs evolved.

But most everything has been upgraded from the originals...and I always buy the legit versions when they're available (domestic or imported)

Is this the CD you're looking for -

Also try ebay or other auction sites - I see some listed for only 99 cents.

    Hello,
My favorite band is ROXETTE. Here in America it's hard to get there stuff from Sweden. I have MOST of there cds. I've backed up all of them to MP3 and on multiple cd-rs and one mega dvd-r collection of all my mp3s.

I'm in the camp that thinks backward compatibility is the key. There will always be a way to play mp3 in the future. That won't die. CD's and DVD's MAY die if and when we move away from physical media (or move to key chain only usb stuff).
