    hello

I've been encountering problems when backing up my DVD's. The problems were described in another post I'd made as being random pauses and glitches.

The type of media I was using when I encountered the problem were "MAXELL DVD-R" discs. I've tried various programs, but the result was the same to varying degrees. The errors would range from momentary pauses to the movie all out freezing (to the point that I had to stop the movie, restart it, just to encounter the same problem again).

Suffice it to say, theres problems.

I HAVE however, found a partial solution. This is where I need your input.

When I used "MEMOREX DVD+RW" discs to backup my movies I encountered no problems.
With that in mind I invested in a 25 stack of MEMOREX DVD-R discs.
    suprise! glitches and pauses.

Now I am left with several questions.
What is the actual difference between DVD-R and DVD+R?
Any ideas why I would encounter problems with one and not the other?
does the fact that I am using DVD+RW discs made a huge difference (relative to DVD+R)?

I'd rather not invest in alot of DVD+RW dics if another format will do the same job (At a price thats a little lower).

The specs are as follows for the tools used.
    p-4 1.77
    256MB RAM
    DVD shrink 3.2
    DVD Decrypter
Nero smart start (nero express 6)
    Maxell DVD-R
    Memorex DVD+RW
    Toshiba 1800 standalone dvd player
LG GSA 4120B Supermulti DVD rw

    thank you for your time.
scratch the surface off a cynic - you will find a disillusioned idealist.
