  1. I have the Leadtek PCI TV/FM Tuner Card, and i'm wondering what is the best solution for me to capture, I've tried various method using the software that came with the card, the result is very poor, even in DVD mode.
I'm trying to capture my graduation video on a VHS tape, I want to edit it later with Ulead VideoStudio 7, i dunno if by doing that will degrade the quality of the video. But to be honest the product that i've produce has very bad quality . thanks in advance. I've read through alot of the guides but can't seem to determine which one to use.
The last question that i have is what format should the captured video be for the best picture. The source is VHS and the final product should be VCD, SVCD, or DVD?

Note that the video you see on your computer screen will appear to look terrible but will look fine once put on disc and viewed on TV.

The quick method: Capture to uncompressed AVI (or a 720x480ntsc preset) instead of mpeg. Change the resolution to 720x480NTSC if the avi preset isn't at this resolution. This will produce a huge file. Capture your video then edit and author disc in Video studio. You can capture to

File size can be reduced using certain codecs. Try the huffy codec. There's infomation here www.digitalfaq.com, this site also has a lot of other good info. I suggest reading it from start to end.

This is not something you learn overnight, it takes a lot of reading and trial and error. Get yourself some Blank DVD-RW or +RW so you can experiment. Try and stick with the presets on your software to begin with.

iuVCR with the AVI codec (huffi)<< or something like that, at 720 X 480 resolution NTSC
    TMPGEnc To convert
TMPGEnc DVD Author 1.6<<< author the DVD

i've done alot of reading and it seems that i'm doing everything right, it's just that the result is very bad

My experience is that if it looks good when you are playing in 720x480,
on the computer then it also would look good on your TV if you encoded in right format (NTSC).

I found huffyuv very processor intensive, so it wouldn't hurt to try the trial of the PicVideo MJPEC codec.
