    I have not seen this asked before, see below, TY is all zeros, every other brand has a code. Anyone know what this all means?

    Drive Type = DVD DUAL
    Disc Type = DVD-R (Single Layer)
    Disc MID = 54 59 47 30 31 00 (TYG01.)
    Disc TID = 00 00 00 00 00 00 (......)
    Nominal Capacity = 4.22GB
    Manufacturer Maybe = Taiyo Yuden Company Limited
    SMART-BURN Speed Limit = 4.0X (Write)

    it's just TAIYO YUDEN discs. nothing wrong with the zeros you see.
    unless it was like CMC then you would need to worry.

  5. TID = Type ID, but it's really only for plus media where it is the three bytes after the MID (Manufacturer ID). For example for Taiyo Yuden 4x DVD+R the MID is 'YUDEN000' and the TID is 'T01' which together is used as the "media code" in the list here.

    DVD-R media has a MID part 1 and a part 2 with 6 bytes of data in each. It's the second part which is displayed somewhat incorrect as the TID in the program you use. Example Optodisc 4x DVD-R; MID part 1: 'OPTODI' and part 2: 'SCR004' together gives 'OPTODISCR004' = "media code".

    Bytes not used are usually set to hex 00.
