    Lite-on 163 and 166 DVD-ROM drives don't seem to have flashable firmware that physically makes them region free? Instead I find a windows based utility that in software switches off region checking.
    My question is if I made the drive region free with this utility would it still be region free if I mounted the drive in standalone player with an IDE interface?
