Does anyone know anything about the Micro Advantage DVD drive Office Max has for $50 after rebates? Is it any good? All I want basically is something to finalize the discs from a standalone recorder on. I've had enough problems with the home recorders anything that would extend the life of the recorder would be worth that much, as long as it doesn't break down too. Will finalizing them on a computer drive hurt compatibility? So far they play on everything I've tried them on. I use the DVD-R format.

if it is a NEC 2500 it would be a good buy (as well as a Lite-On). If it is BenQ or BTC not so good. any other manufacturer make both 8x DVD-+R??
Update: i think I misread their ad... I thought it burned both + and -, and at 8x (like the NEC 2500). is it only a + drive? oh, well... -

I have the Micro Advantage from OfficeMax. It is an 8x but I don't have any 8x media that it will burn. I have some FujiFilm 8x but they will only burn at 2x on this drive. It is made by BTC and the BTC number is 1008IM and I got it for $40.00 after rebate. I also have the 1004IM and I have burned over 300 dvds on it. The 1004IM will burn the FujiFilm discs at 4x. I have ordered some Prodiscs dvd 8x media that is supported by the Micro Advantage 8x drive with the latest firmware update. Icold have spent a lot more money on my drives but with good media I never burn coasters, only when I buy really cheap stuf do I ever burn a coaster. But I have never burned a coaster with even GQ (25 -R 4x discs for $13). I have burned coasters with samsung 2x discs.
For the price that I paid I got a really good deal. -
Hello,
I have the 4x version from Microadvantage (last years Thanksgiving sales) and I've never had a technical problem with it. Any discs I've made that didn't work turned out to be my fault (ie wrong format or settings). It seems to be a very dependable unit.

If I finalize discs from a standalone recorder on a computer drive will the menus be the same as if they were finalized on the recorder? Will finalizing them on a computer drive hurt compatibility?
