Hi
Please can someone help.
I have a Sony dcr-dvd100e and i am trying to connect to winxp pro to use with pinnacle software. The problem is it is installing as a mass storage device and not a camera, so hence it is not showing up in pinnacle. I have used the usb driver with the software that came with it (Image Mixer). I have also reinstalled so many times i have lost track of time.
Many Thanks In Advance.

The USB connection can only import "pictures" from the camera...not video. Firewire is the connection you need for video.

Hi
Thanks for the reply.
I was told by my local sony centre that the connection on these camera's is a usb connection. I also have another camera (Panasonic dv) which connects through fire wire and works. But the fire wire cable ( i think a 4/6 pin) does not fit my Sony camera. Please can you spec the cable i need.
Many Thanks -
I have one of each. 4 to 4 and 4 to 6.
There only is 4 pin and 6 pin Firewire so depending what your computer has....I'm guessing 99% of cameras have 4 pin and 99% of computers have 6 pin.
The only reason I have a 4 to 4 is my DVD Recorder has a 4 pin input.
I've seen "Sony" Firewire cables but not sure what the difference would be other than Sony being the usual PRICKS when it comes to connectivity to anything other than another Sony product.
GREAT cameras...bastard company...
The camera DOES have a firewire connection correct? -
Hi
The usb is the only connection that this camera has. I have connected to Image Mixer but then i apreciate that it is only transfering data rather than video. So can i asume that pinnacle just will not work with this camera?. And if not what good software will?
Many Thanks -
This site says it has a Firewire output:

If that thing records to DVD....what exactly are you going to use the connections for anyway? I'm sure there is a good reason...I'm just curious. -
I have checked the camera over and RTFM (thanks RFB), but i cannot see the firewire output. My manual does not refer to firewire at all. I had a look at the link and see that it does suggest that it output's via firewire but it does say interface does that maybe suggest that it might be a plug in (only suggesting). Or maybe i got the cheap version lmao. is it poss that a firewire cable fits into the slot i am using for usb, i have a 4/6 one and it doesnt fit this cable is a more chunky end, the connection is more a flat type maybe a 6/6 might fit??... It is only holiday discs i am looking to burn to a full dvd with all the transitions and all (novelty factor) .

The jury is still out on Firewire:

I would start some reading some guides on ripping and compiling DVD's. You already have half of the battle won....the video is already on DVD. All you need to do it either edit or compile(if you have more than one DVD with your holiday movies). This method is a WHOLE LOT easier than dumping .avi footage to a computer then encoding to DVD....when it's already on DVD in the first place. You are already at least two steps ahead of someone with a MiniDV camcorder.
