  1. Every time I start up a game...Call of Duty, DoomIII, etc. It ALWAYS crashes me back to the desktop. But when I do severe video editing with Vegas5, everything just flys along.

I upgraded the video card drivers thinking that was the problem, but it didn't work.

    Here's my stats.
    AMD 2600+
    768mb 2700 DDR
    GeForce FX 5600 256mb

    anybody have a clue?

Your video card. What manufacturer is it? And I better not hear BFG Asylum or Mad Dog.

Video is 2D so it hardly uses the video card to any extent. Games are 3D and use the GPU and instructions on the video card. Unfortunately both those manufacturer's have been known to make some really flaky cards and cover it up by adding more VRAM to make it that much more enticing. Dunno what you can do about it short of getting another card

At least it could be worse, a friend of mine had a Mad Dog video card that caught fire briefly

I had the same problem, but I have a 5200. For me it happened when I had just upgraded the ForeWare drivers, that was a mistake. I couldn't find the original drivers anywhere, I had to reformat.
