    As above, and:

    1. Whichever software works best for what you want to do.

    2. Nero is useful for some things, Not so good for others.

    3. For MKV, Start here. http://www.matroska.org/

um...ok ill start reading. My family went on a trip last year and we recorded alot. I used Movie Maker and turned it into 2 seperate parts with subtitles and other stuff. THen i used tmpegnc to encode to mpg. I just bought Nero and I have to say that it was a waste. they dont let you create dvds, but MINIdvds. I heard that first you have to author, then compile. Is DVD Lab good from that?

  5. if you done it right with tmpgenc yes dvd lab will convert/add 2 ,3 movies together and spit them out as vob files so you can burn them with nero or watever

If you are only getting the option for a miniDVD then you have to make sure you have the DVD part selected and not the CD part. I always recommend noobs use Nero Express and the guide here, as I think it is a bit easier to learn than the standard Nero interface.

If you have used TMPGEnc Plus to encode to MPEG-2, then you need to author. I would suggest TMPGEnc DVD Author.
    If in doubt, Google it.
