  2. Most firmware updates are self running executables. Some may require you to adjust your dma / pio ide controller settings ... check with the mfg or the check the readme file that came with your flash.

You shold be able to just download and dbl click the exe file.

A DOS flash is a program that you have to run in Dos. What you have to do is make a Dos boot disk with all the necessary files on it. If the files are to big for one floppy you can make 1 floppy your Dos boot disk and put your flash file on another floppy. Go into your computer's bios and set it to boot from your floppy drive first. Start your computer with the boot disk then run the flash program. There should be a read me file with your flash file you downloaded. This should tell you what to type to run the flash file in Dos. When done restart your computer go into the bios again and set it to boot the way it did before. You can ruin the drive if not done correctly so if you are not familiar with Dos I recommend getting someone with experience with Dos to do it for you.

  4. Here's a Windows Flash page http://www.herrie.org/ I just flashed my Nec ND2510A. I'm going to try it with a Ridata DVD+ DL disc later tonight. I'll let you know if it works.

  5. Just watched a movie I copied with my Nec ND2510A on a Ridata DL disc. My desk top recorder played it without any problems. The firmware flash on this page http://www.herrie.org/ worked great. Before the flash The Nec ND2510A wouldn't work with Ridata DL disc. I used DVD Decrypter in ISO Read, ISO Write and it worked good. I did notice one spot that paused for a split second. I think this was probable the layer break. Now if only the price of DL disc would drop to a reasonable price

If you don't like reading and researching, I can say that firmware upgrade is not for you.

I recently upgraded mr hp300n(+ only) to a 1300 (+/-). The upgrade took only 5 mins. But I spent many nights reading many many many sites/articles before I hit that button.

If you don't like reading and researching...
It's time to kick some butts, and presto ( if you know what I mean )
