Depends on what your budget is.

Amd gives you more bang for your buck.

That's simple AMD all the way. Celeron doesn't compare. That's like asking would you get a 1ghz PIII or a 1ghz P4. A perfect anology it's not but it's close enough.

  5. I can get both these CPU for the same price.

I just though the Celeron might be better because it is 2.6 Ghz and the XP 2600+ is only 2.13GHZ or what ever the none Barton Version is.

The 2600+ (or P-rating) on the Athlon means it is actually supposed to be comparable to a P4 running at 2.6GHz, which would be a good deal faster than a Celeron 2.6GHz.
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

This why I made the anolgy between the PIII and a P4.

BTW you can't just pop any processor into your motherboard. It needs to have the correct socket. Since you have a AMD atlon now you couldn't consider the Celeron unless you planned on changing motherboards anyway. You better make sure that the socket you have is the one required for any new procssor you buy.

Buy an after market CPU fan... One thing I've read is the fans that come with the CPU's is a tad sub standard. (They may have gotten better in the last 6 months when I was researching a purchase.
