  1. My mom has some PAL discs that she wants to play. They play on her Pioneer DV-343 DVD player, but the pictures comes out distorted. I suspect that it is because the TV is an NTSC TV. Is there an inexpensive PAL to NTSC converter that can get hooked up to the DVD player?

Does the picture come out stretched vertically when trying to watch a pal movie? If thats the case then no external convertor will help, you have to get a dvd player that will play pal dvds resized properly.

I have 2 used but excellent models I wouldn't mind selling as I don't need them anymore myself.

PM me if you are interested.

You can also buy a new DVD player that does PAL to NTSC conversion ... that would actually be the cheaper method.

Even used stand alone video standards converters are expensive.

For instande the two models I would like to sell now ... one was $650 USD and the other was around $350 USD

Of course if you have a stand alone you can use it with other video sources like playing back a PAL VHS tape for NTSC conversion.

You are probably better off buying a cheap DVD Player that converts PAL to NTSC (and vise versa). Do like I do...take your DVD's with you to shop for a DVD Player. The conversion setting is usually a somewhat hidden menu option on these type of DVD Players but I've also seen players that have it right on the remote as a simple N/P button....VERY handy indeed....but these(from the remote) are usually European models.
