Hello everybody:
I would like to find out the meaning of the bitrate percentage setting in TMPGEnc.
When I click on the "Settings" button, MPEG Settings dialog windows opens up.
In the Video tab there is a rate control mode selection. Normally I encode in VBR (CQ_VBR), as it gives me the best quality for the time spent.
To the right of this mode selection, there is a "Setting" button, where you set the max and min bitrate. But there is also a percentage ruler from 0 (lowest quality) to 100 (highest).
I can see a perceptible difference when I encode at 75%, as opposed to 95% with the same bitrate setting.
However, I cannot quite figure out the relationship between those two controls. Bitrate alone would have done the trick, the way I see it.
Does this mean that if I select bitrate of, say, 7000 kbs and the "quality" of 70% I would get an "effective" bitrate of 4900?
And if yes, can I get the same 4900 by selecting 6000 kbs at the "quality" setting of 81.7%?
Thx: walter
