  2. After purchasing a xvid player I thought it would be great to back my dvd's onto dvd-r's. I hoped to save money this way. Simply put, what a waste of my time. If you only want them for your pc, then it's ok, but don't convert them so you can play on your tv.

To keep things simple, use AutoGK. Once you read up on Gaurdian Knot it becomes more fun to have the manual settings. The only major problem i've ever ran into (using GK) was audio sync. Some dvd's I had were interlaced, which make it complicated to sync the audio with the video. If you search under my nickname, you'll find a couple (lol) posts about xvid/divx.

Keep it simple, use AutoGK for the time being!

  3. thanks for the help guyz but i got one last question. how long does this usually take? im using autogk to encode a dvd movie to xvid. the movie is 2hrs 17 min long and i want to encode it to 2 cds. its been encoding for 4hrs + and its STILL not done. im using a 2.4 celeron. is this normal?

  4. Yes it is, it takes a long time. Most the time it is best to set it up at night then let it run while you sleep. Don't know what you are using to encode with, but most will have the option to shut down the computer when it is finished, then it will shutdwon the computer when the encosding is done.
