I'm planning on buying a dvd-writer, and just wondering how long it takes to burn a DVD(4.7Gb) at 2x speed.

Also, which kind of DVD discs should I buy?...DVD-R or DVD+R?

  2. Der 30 mins but you dot wnat ot buy a 2X burner now... Get 8X at least.
On the media side its down to what you standalone player will play. Just dont buy the cheapest rubbish you can find though.

30mins isnt that bad. I'm getting it as a free-upgrade on my new computer, so can't really choose to get an 8x.

Eh you be lucky to find a 2X now
hard enough 4X hardly a good free upgrade, must be one they have been unable to sell. Media is going to get hard to find too.

Hmm...it should be an LG dvd-writer. I dont mind the speed, as long as it works.

Considering the standard is around 8X (8-9 minutes), I would suggest that this free upgrade you're getting isn't exactly a steal.

I can see why they're giving the 2X burner away.... I would be careful that you are not getting a used DVD burner. I guess free is the right price, but I personally would prefer new.
    If in doubt, Google it.

Fair enough - each to their own

If you'll just be using it for data, it doesn't matter if you use + or -.
    If in doubt, Google it.

  10. +R is slightly faster and has better error correection when used for data, but there isn't a lot in it.
