Sorry if this has been covered somewhere before but a search did not come up with the goods.
I have a Panasonic DV camera (GX-7A) which i am trying to capture from. My system is P3 670Mhz, with 256mb RAM and 20gb free space running XP Pro SP1. I have a generic firewire capture card. I'll admit that its certainly not state of the art.
The computer is recognising the camera no probs, and it will capture for anything up to a couple of minutes. I have used Movie Maker, Studio 8, Ulead and Scenalanyser to capture and the same happens in each.
After a short time of capturing, it appears the connection to the computer is lost as it stops capturing and i can no longer control the camera from the computer. Unless i reboot, I cannot get the computer to recognise the camera again.
I was able to capture about 40mins in preview mode in Studio 8 but when it came time to capture in DV mode it would not capture afer a minute.
Can anyone help with whats going on? I understand that Studio is pretty buggy but this occurs with all other capturing programs as well.
TIA

I dont know but it is possible your system is getting maxed out on memory. 256k is barely enough to run windows xp and maybe gets maxed out when your capturing. I had best luck when I would start capturing right after rebooting. You might also want to try disabling some of your computers start up programs.
