What software decoder can be used to preview work in progress in both Scenerist and DVD Maestro? Both of these programs seem to want a add in card but perhaps there is another option to use a software decoder.

Maestro -> Cinemaster 2000 DVD player.
I think it's the only DVD player that integrates with Maestro, you can choose to install only the codecs indeed and Maestro will allow preview.

    Don't know Scenarist

scenarist 3.x -- it is built in, you select on installation if you are using hardware or software ...

Maestro -> Cinemaster 2000 is the best , but 99 also works fine .. so does the cinemaster that comes on the installation cd ..

latest cinemaster from sonic does not work ..

Looks like Cinemaster 2000 is a oldie not available anymore and made for WinNT or Win2000 only. Maybe Im wrong here but I cant find it anywhere.

From my experience, Scenarist will use any software mpeg decoder that you have installed. I've used Intervideo (windvd) and Elucard with no problems.

Will Scenerist 2.7 use Cyberlink PowerDVD or Is it Only the Scenerist 3.0 version work with other decoders?

I can't speak for PowerDVD's decoder cause I never tried it with Scenarist. But when I used Scenarist 2.7 it worked with all mpeg2 decoders I tried.
