Hi guys.
Until I save enough $ for a fast PC for editing, I'll be doing it on my S-VHS VCR.
I'd like to add some cool text/special effects to some old home movies (VHS). I was wondering if I can pass the video thru an AIW or something, add the titles and/or effects with an editing program and output to my S-VHS or do I have to capture the video first?
Can anyone recommend a good cheap capture card (AGP) and editing program to do this with?
I have a P3 600, 128 ram, onboard sound (ESS Solo) and a Lexicon Pro audio card, Win 98SE

You could try Leadtek Winfast 2000XP expert. You may be able to capture at VCD quality. It includes a ton of stuff, TV/FM tuner, S-video/composite capture, antennae, Ulead Cool 3d (for titling and special effects), Ulead Video Studio (dvd/vcd authoring), remote control.......$50.00 the last time I looked. If it doesn't work you can always take it back providing the store you bought it at has a liberal return policy or save it for your next comp.
I'll assume you have a CD burner, you can create VCD's which will play in most DVD players. The 2000xp won't output to VHS.
You could also look into a video card with VIVO which will output to VHS, look for one with a good software package that includes editing programs.
Also you could look in the tools section on the left menu, there is a lot of free software available but most of it is not for the novice.
Most likley your going to run into a lot of headaches with your system no matter what you do. -
Thanks for the reply.
I'll do a bit of research and hopefully find some cheap cards near me.
For now I'm really just looking to edit in real time from one VCR to another, with an editing program between the two.
Probably not possible though and I'll have to capture video to add effects and output the captured video again. -

I'm thinking of trying the Canopus ADVC-100.
I'll try and download some video editors, then a short video clip.
Although if I go with the ADVC, then am I right to assume with my slow PC, converting from DV is where I'll run into a problem? -

You'll probably into problems when you start editing, and/or exporting your material, since this is gonna be the test of your CPU...
Your computer is borderline...
Good luck!!!
