    hi,

please could someone help me with this problem?

i'm interested in buying a DVD writer, so far i'm sure that's it will be a lite-on.
Only problem is i'm torn between LDW-812S and SOHW-832S.

The reason is this, i can purchase the LDW-812S for about 63 quid and the SOHW-832S for about 75 quid.

So do i go for the dual layer or wait and go for the single layer now, untill the dual layer media has come down in price and also there will be newer writers out by then which will be better and faster.

Is there any performance difference between the two writers?

please help me to get a good night's sleep and clear mind on which one.

    Many Thanks in advance

  2. Get a Pioneer instead, used 103, 104, 105, 106, and now 107. No problems except 2 died on me. RIP little fellas, over used them 12+ hours a day. Didn't recognize disc anymore, but I got lots of mileage out of them.

It may seem NEC, BENQ, LITEON burns faster and are cheaper but errors starts to show up more on those burners. Blank disc starts to add up.

    Just my 2 cents worth!

  3. Or get the single-layer and flash it to dual-layer. I'd personally get the 832S. But if you're tight on cash, you can shoot for the 812S and then flash it to a 832S...

Buy the cheapest that is good for your today's use now and like PC, don't buy any DVD burner for future purpose, because by the time you need the future usage/feature, the price of newer better and cheaper model plus the old together will be something less expensive than with the more expensive drive now!

It's kinda strange that I've burned 600+ perfect discs with no coasters with my Nec 2500A still waiting for those errors to show up. Plus Nec's are far better burners than Pioneer anyday of the week. Just my 2 cent's worth! I would go with the SOHW-832S to get back on track with the post.

I've looked and I must be overlooking. Where do I find and / or which file do I use to patch the 812s to an 832s?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

  8. vote for 832 - it seems lite-on will support that one longer (with firmware) then the 811.

    I'm using a 451@832 and it's great - 40-50 movies and maybe 1 coaster.
