Hi ... I ask earlier what site is good to download movies from and the post got stop before i could comment on it ... I am talking about legal movies ( paid types ) You can paid for music downloads but what you can't do it for dvd movies , I don't see why you can do it for music but not for dvd ??? Also if your going to stop a post at least tell the person as to why it was done , don't just do it for the sake of it ... Thanks

Proberly more to do with the size of a film and the length of time it takes to down load.
Lets just say a full dvd takes me 10 hours on a 1 meg adsl connection at full whack... Now i know a lot of the world has faster connections but is there enough of a market to make running such a scheme viable just yet. Certainly not yet in the UK, although there is one company who are trialing in the london area.
Give it a few years and it maybe a starter.

Also, it may be in the wording of your request.

You asked for a site/way to download DVDs, which suggests warez (pirated movie). Kind of like asking how to download a CD, versus asking from what site you can buy songs and download songs.

The main thing is that you never asked about paying for them. If you were to ask "Does anyone know of a site where I can purchase and download movies?", you would have gotten much different responses.

Basically, if you have a legit question, ask the whole question so that no mistakes are made. I think that it's more likely that you were asking for warez and got caught, now you're making up this back-story to cover your ass.

No harm done, so just move along.

    Amazon.ca?

Seriously, DVDs are so cheap nowadays, it's worth it to buy them and not put up with the hassle of broken downloads, shitty encodes, or transferring to DVD.

  15. A legal dvd would probably be rared so it wouldn't be that big. Probably come down in a few hours with grabbit. Perhaps just start the download before you go to bed & wake up & its ready.

You can get anything you want on Usenet & free. 'nuff said.

AFAIK, any legal download site is going to have DRM on the files, which will restrict your usage of them (ie no burning to disc, or playing with an 'unapproved' player, or transferring them to different computers) and some are set to time-out after a specified period or a specified number of viewings...

.. .so you are, in essence, renting them, not buying them.

Okay i have a question about your topic , What if you keep them on your hard drive and never burn anything , just keep them there and use them when ever you feel like or better yet what if you have a External Hard Drives and load them all in there , you could still be able to use them where ever right ??? Now i am talking about the ones that don't have as you say set to time-out after a specified period or a specified number of viewings ... Lastly would this still be consider illegal ??? I mean i'm paying for them and they only going to stay on the hard drive ... Thanks

mpeg files and wmv9 files do not compress much at all when rar'd - the overall file size stays about the same ..

point two ... do not discuss warez

it would depend on the DRM that the distributor was using - what if it doesn't allow you to move the file or save it to an external harddrive? what if it's keyed to a particular media player on a specific machine?

if you can find a site that offers unlimited views and full portability on the files, more power to you - I just haven't seen any that are that free with the media. studios aren't looking at downloading to replace DVD sales, they are looking at it to compete with dvd rentals at this point .

So more or less there isn't any that does and if there was it probably wouldn't be as good as the dvd disk itself ?? Thanks for your input i appreciated ... Though i now am curious as to what purpose does it make to have a big hard drive like 100gigs and up ??? I mean the average Joe couldn't fill his HHD with just data itself , right ???

when I bought my first add-in hard drive, it was 240 Megabytes, and it increased my storage by 240%. I thought "340 megs... that's all I'll need. I'll never fill it."

that was when the video games I played regularly on the computer came on one 3.5" disc. The last one I loaded on my system (Unreal 2004) is 3 cd-roms.

the applications and data sets will expand to fill the average system... now that I have 260Gb of space, I think nothing of running a few hours of captures, even though they would have totally filled the hard drives I used just a couple of years ago.

See my first post for how long on a 1 meg line it takes... Oh go on then.. 10 hours at full speed...and that is rared up..
Why not try one of the online rental shops where they mail you disks and you mail back when finsihed. Not sure state side but here in the UK most have 17,000+ disks to choose from so they bound to have what you want all for a small monthly fee.

Dude, you don't really "get" what video encoding is all about. ALL of these video formats (mpeg, divx, DV, etc.) already ARE compressed. That's what encoding is all about -- how to compress video with the best perceived quality possible. If it were as simple as losslessly compressing a video file (e.g. in RAR format), there would be no need for MPEG2 or any other video format. How is it possible that you have 1300+ posts on this forum and not understand this?

Why do people not understand the site itself is not illegal. You can get things that are free and legal from them for free. Things like linux which is covered by the gpl license.

I get tired of people referring to these sites as being illegal.

FYI, Bittorrent is not illegal. Bittorrent is a program, not a website. P2P was ruled legal by a judge, and sites like suprnova are not illegal, because you can get things like linux off of it. If something has noninfringing uses, it is not illegal.
