I have an Eye TV USB model. I was wondering which of the following methods would reveal the best quality video. I am recording cable TV signals at the highest settings possible with the EyeTV. I can choose to either save as a MPEG1 or MOV file. When I drop a bunch in Toast 6 it then "encodes" them to burn a DVD. What should I use MOV or MPEG1? What will get me the best quality DVD?
thanks,
k

First, all EyeTV files are MPEG1, regardless of the extension. The .mov files still contain an MPEG1 file, as noted by looking at the 'Get Movie Properties' pane.
For best recording quality, connect to your cable service using a high quality cable no longer than 6-12 feet, and record at high quality.
Reencoding these already compressed files will not yield decent results. It is not possible to capture EyeTV's signal from any other source, since EyeTV actually compresses the signal in Hardware.
Finally, Toast 6 is the best option for recording EyeTV output to DVD or VCD.
If these results are still sub par, there's always EyeTV 200. -
Would recording at HIGH quality [versus standard quality] with an EyeTV USB going to yield THAT much better results when the final medium is a VCD?
