  1. i'm looking to buy a new hard drive for my ps2. i just sold my 80gb seagate to a friend for $100. he didnt want to go through the hassle of getting it himself, and i figured i could make a few bucks off the deal, and maybe get a bigger hdd.

the cheapest i could find for a 120gb on pricewatch.com was $68 shipped

i'm a little be weary of buying from some of the retailers from pricewatch.. they all seem like fly by nights.. the only places i've purchased from that came from pricewatch were avlogic.com & esbuy.com they both turned out okay (even though i think avlogic has gone OOB)

to be a little on the safe side, i saw this maxtor 120gb from newegg.com for $91 shipped
    http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproductdesc.asp?description=22-144-148&DEPA=1

the previous drive i had was a seagate, and it worked like a champ in my computer for like 2 years, and in my ps2 for the last month or so. so i dont mind buying seagate. i dont have much of a problem with maxtor, it seems to be the norm in ps2 hdd's..

as far as speed is concerned, i dont think it matters much concerning the ps2.. i think the official $ony hdd is 5200rpm..

i would like to purchase the $68 seagate, but i'm a bit worried about the company..

does anyone have any suggestions on a good online store to buy a hdd from? i'm looking for a 120gb hdd, i'll look at a 160gb if it isnt much more.

thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Ask him if he wants another one.....

newegg has never done me wrong. I wouldn't hesitate a second to buy from them again...

  3. Hello!
    I have 2 HDD , they are SEAGATE 120 Gb but 7200 r/m.
Transfering a 700 Mb movie from one drive to another takes 20 seconds.
I had Seagates before and I can say you can trust them.
If you want speed I recomend WESTERN DIGITAL ,very fast (if 7200r/m)but you must be more carefoul with them.
The advantage of using 2 HDD is I have 2 operating sistems ,so if one brokes ,I boot on the other HDD. I keep them in HDD TRAY (or RACKS)and it`s very easy to take them walk or switch...You MUST set the Master at the end of the IDE cable and the Sclave to the middle of the cable.
So if you have enough money I recomand you to buy 2 HDD of 60Gb or 80 Gb. They must be identical for better transfer.
I do not recomand MAXTORs... Hot & Noisy...If not noisy, develops bads...
    Bye !

Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

But he was writing about his ps2.

check hdloader.com hd chart to see what works.

  7. to the last guy.. that was some retarded post.. "you gotta watch out for the 120gb harddrives".. what the ****? do 120gb harddrives fail more often for some reason than 80gb or 160gb drives? thats like saying "you better watch out for red cars, they like to drive fast on the road"..

    jesus..

anyhow, i wound up getting a 120gb samsung, 7200rpm, 2mb buffer, 8.9ms seek time.. $79.99 shipped.. about 3 hours later they jacked up the price $3, so i feel a bit better about buying it.

what i was looking for was a place online that you've purchased a harddrive and not had any problems with.. then i would go there and see if they had a 120gb harddrive at a good price, and then buy from them..

anyhoo, thanks to the non-retards who replied..

you gotta watch out for the 120gb drives.. good lord..
