  1. one of the biggest things to hit the ps2 scene recently was the hdloader.

the hdloader is a disc (original-ish) that would let you install games on to a playstation 2 harddrive. you didnt have to have an official harddrive, just a harddrive between 40gb & 120gb (i've heard reports drives smaller than 40gb have worked).. they are selling the hdloader for about $35 shipped.. this was supposed to be very stongrly protected against piracy.

    the first method that exposed it was to do this;

SM2 CD original (or gs2 v2), hdloader cd-r, eject as soon as hdloader screen comes up and insert crazy taxi original. it would let you boot games. you could previously boot the hdloader, but you were only permitted to install games. not play them.. but with this method you had full use of the hdloader.

next came the cracked version, courtesy of ps2ownz (well, actually not, they're denying it).. with this one, you dont need crazy taxi at all. just a way to boot a cd-r. so SM2 CD -> cdloader v7 b5.2 (its free) -> hdloader cracked cd-r.. and it works to the fullest.

from what i've heard, the actual hdloader data that is needed is only 3mb.. small enough to fit on the MC..

so basically, once you get all the games you want installed.. you'll just be able to leave a psx game in your ps2 and boot the hdloader of the MC.. never have to open the tray, unless you want to install another game.. fast load times.. shweetness.

(p.s.- the crappy thing about this all is that i bought the hdloader & crazy taxi.. $43 down the tube. ahwell, i'll pawn it off on my friends. )

Also if you have a modchip (at least been proven with DMS3 but others will probably work fine also) you can stick the HDloader cd backup in and boom!
Thats it, you can load the games off your HD

  3. yeah, but you have to have the cracked version to do it with the modchip.

i had heard a rumour that you there was a modchip that could load the uncracked version, but its not like it matters now..

ps2 gaming at the speed of the hdd.. all they need to do know is figure out a way have the memory card load off the hdd too. then it will be speed heaven.

Quick question, to load it from the memory card dont you also have to use the cracked version?

As you said this HDLoader is pretty interesting. Saving wear and tear on a laser can be a good thing and I'd like something else to tinker with

  5. me and a few other guys worked on it for a few hours and got it working off a MC.

it wont boot straight off the MC, you gotta load it through ps2menu-k, but it works!

maybe someone will fix the ELF so it will boot straight without having to use ps2menu-k, but its only a few extra seconds and NO SWAPPING

I know but its the easiest way to find the 782k, 9MB, or 128MB file to do it via memory card exploit or cd image

If it works with the modchip I definitely wouldnt wont to put it on a memory card

But theres always more than one way to skin a cat

  9. well for modchip users, the 128mb or 8mb disc image would work just fine for them.. but for us swappers, this makes our machines as good as a chipped system

Now you can install the exploit into the DMS3 explorer on the memory card and run it from there if you have the DMS3 chip
(Now you no longer have to leave a CD in the Drive)

You might want to check the link in his last message.

The pic is from his front door ( http://www.jeexlabs.com ), notice it doesn't go anywhere. Must be a security thing for those trying to come in the front door (you gotta go in the door he tells you to).
Hope is the trap the world sets for you every night when you go to sleep and the only reason you have to get up in the morning is the hope that this day, things will get better... But they never do, do they?

  13. First of all, only certain HD's work. Should be a list of those on hdloader.com
Also, no online games. No GS or action replay...

They should have waited to market the thing after people hacked it to be something decent. Should be a free loader coming up one of these days. But I still don't think its worth it, $35 for loader, $49 for network adapter, $100 for HD, then 20 or 30 minutes to load a game to the HD, after which you can play it assuming you have that hdloader disk in your ps2.

Also, after awhile you'd need to defrag or your games slow down to a crawl, do they come with a defrag or do you have to reformat & start again?

Some people are working on a util so you can just put the games on a HD in your PC & copy that to another HD.
