  1. hi

i'm having problem with my hard disk...it doesn't boot to windows xp anymore because i used that hard drive in fresh installed windows xp (which can't support more than 137 GB). my hard drive is 160GB and it has alot of stuff in it. That hard disk is my primarty boot drive. what happened was i bought a 250GB hard drive and replaced it with 160GB drive. and installed windows xp on the new drive 250GB. then i installed 160GB old drive to primary slave. so now the new drive 250GB is master and old drive 160GB is slave. i turned on the power and booted to fress installed windows xp and go to "my computer" to find out every thing alright but it said the slave drive capacity is only 32GB(it suppose to be 160GB with all my files). so i restarted the computer again and this time windows said 0gb free 0gb capacity......i remove the 250GB hard drive again and put the old 160GB back to the primary master and i can't boot with that hard drive anymore ......it is showing this "_" thing forever in dos.....what should i do now??? i have alot of data in it. is there any programs that can fix that? the hard drive wasnt formated or anything like that ...i just used it on the unsupported windows xp.. that's all...

    thanks for the help

check how your jumpers are set, and check how bios is configured. just sounds like a config issue to me.

Is this in a gateway by chance? It looks to me like you might have go-back installed on the computer..... If your computer can recognize a 250gb drive on the primary master then it should see the 160 no problem. I believe you do need to have sp1 installed though or you may end up with data loss.

OK, and do they tally with BIOS? you should see the correct size of your drive reported in BIOS.
