  1. I'm going to be producing a video here in a month or so that will have a certain 20's-40's flare about it. What I'm wondering is how many years is it before music becomes public domain? I think I heard one poster here say ~70 years....that sound about right?

With that said, can anybody recommend good musicians in the public domain arena?

    Thanks in advance...

  3. OMG...impossible! That means that to use music in this video, the musician would have DIED in 1934 or earlier...they barely had recording devices by then....sigh

    Can't get Sinatra's stuff until like...2067!!!

Why do you think copyright is such a controversy now? You can't even watch tv, read a newspaper, listen to the radio, watch a movie, or surf the net without hearing about it.

Why not pick the music you want and just pay the royalties for using it? Then you wouldn't be so limited in what you can use. It can't be that expensive, can it?

depends on the music - and it's usually cheaper to release a full cd of licensed music than to use one song in a video - it's a different set of rights, and one set is governed by statute and one isn't....
