  1. I have an xvid that is 23.976 fps. I tried encoding to svcd but playback on my standalone is choppy all the way through (on my pc it's fine, however).

What am I doing wrong? I used tmpgenc's NTSC Film template, which automatically set it to 23.97 (29.97 internally) with 3.2 pulldown. I also checked the xvid for bad frames in vdub and it's fine.

    Any ideas?

Do you know for a fact that your DVD player can handle SVCD? Many can't, or at least not very well. Is it possible it can't handle the 3:2 pulldown? Try without it (ie encode 29.97 fps interlaced) and see what happens.

  5. Yes, my standalone plays SVCD no problem. I'll try your encoding suggestion and report back with the results.
    Thanks
