I believe what lordsmurf means (just to clarify :P ) is that you need to look up your file in Gpsot and see what kind of audio it is. TMPGEnc doesn't like some audio formats.

Are your settings in TMPGEnc set to generate system or elementary streams?

  8. ok so......I click on DVD-->NTSC-->"which layer audio do I pick???" then I add my .avi file, leave the video type to non-interlace, leave the aspect ratio to 1:1 (VGA) and then in window 4 I leave eveything like it is and write to make the file size 100% of the disk capasity and in the last window, I leave the checkbox unchecked, which audio layer do I choose??? I think I may be messing up on that part of the encoding.... another thing, is it ok that it first analyzes the whole video and then finally encodes it???

Just have TMPGEnc output the video stream by itself (ES). Use VirtualDub to extract the audio from your source AVI and save it as WAV, then use something like BeSweet to convert your audio to AC3. TMPGEnc does a crappy job encoding audio, IMHO.
