  1. I'm having a terrible time finding the kind of program I need. I want to transfer digital Sony camcorder video to single stills on my Sony Vaio. I can find lots of programs that go from the PC to the camcorder, or to DVDs, etc., or from the camcorder to video on the PC--I need STILLS ONLY!

Any help out there? I used the Sony program very happily for a couple of years until it crashed and burned a few weeks ago. I'm unable to repair the software (won't display, but will control the camera), so I either want a new program or a fix to the old. I've got the firewire, card, etc.

Remember, I need camcorder to PC stills only--don't care about the rest. Programs? Help with the Sony problem? TIA

Your looking to make images right? Basic jpg's? There's numerous applications that will do that. Most software for playing back video has a screenshot function. Power DVD is one, most editing programs will pull a frame out of the video or any good image editing software will have a screen capture component. Although it wasn't made for this pupose you could use Ulead 3D production to create a single image for every frame.

  3. In searching for the reason my Sony VAIO desktop PCV-R536DS computer suddenly stopped receiving video with its Dvgate software from my Sony TVR-130 camcorder, I find that, in the Control Panel under Multimedia Properties, the Video Compression Codecs all have a small red dual loop figure attached to the icons. The Audio Compression Codecs also have the same mark. I am not sure this red marking means trouble, but it certainly appears likely to me. I believe all the trouble started when I downloaded the Microsoft updates for computer security.

I have downloaded the updated Dvgate software, and while the old software would still operate the camcorder but not show video in the window, the updated software does neither. In attempting to get something to work, I purchased Soni's Movie Studio software, thinking that in loading new software, whatever problem had developed with the Dvgate would be avoided with the new program. Unfortunately, it does not even recognize the camcorder at all. It gives me an error message saying that "The device 'Sony DV Camcorder could not be opened. Please made sure that it is turned on and is not being used by another application or user." Foiled again!

Is there a way to fix the Codecs, assuming they are indeed not functional?

I have similar red marks next to my codecs, here's a screenshot. Probably just how the icon looks.
