  1. Ok, it goes like this, I am new to this game and thought it would be easy, ha ha. Now, nearly two weeks I am chasing my tail in circles.

I would like to convert my divx.avi to vcd, Using various software obtained from various how to guides I converted to a mpg - ( only the first two minuite's mind as it is trial software) - cucusoft and also i have tried tempgenc etc etc.

I now have this mpg to put onto my cd-r, i launch nero - however on all the guides it says to use nero 5.5 burning rom and I have nero 6 so it is different. I get directed to nero express. i choose cd - vcd- I open the mpg file, I follow through the options and at the end choose the drive for burning, disc size, write cd, I check all the info and it seems fine I change the speed to a lower speed, and i hit burn.

Excellent I thought - it plays back on my pc, but not my dvd. I have played other cd-r on my dvd so should be fine. This process seems too staright forward - I have obviously missed out some vital process - Perhaps someone could let me know exactly where i went wrong and direct me to a nice easy guide. ( i have also tried with a programme called vcdeasy - still no joy.

Whilst I have your attention - i did try avi - dvd (dvdrw) I got the same problem - i converted - authored - burnt - but only plays picture on my pc no sound - and does not play on dvd player at all. Do dvd players as a rule play back dvd+rw.

Sorry to make it so long - but it is best to ask - if you don't ask you don't get.

( there are many guides out there that tell you how to avi - vcd but all use different software and all do things slightly different.)

    Thanks in advance

The software package I have found easiest to use is dvd2svcd. It will work hand in hand with tmpgenc. It will pretty much do everything for you. All you have to do is change the input to avi and select vcd as your output. Set it up before you go to bed and it will be done when you wake up. It will create a cue/bin file that you can burn with nero. There are some great guides listed on this site that will walk you step by step on how to get it set up.

    Good luck!

don't use nero express... you're now in the big league i find it better using the regular interface... are you sure you've got your resoultion correctly? it could be that it's not standard vcd resolution... it's best to try a package do-it-all program or follow a guide very strictly...

your dvd player should play dvd+rw although some don't play certain brands etc. due to compatability issues... try checking it with burning a regular dvd to that dvd+rw (backing up some movie u already have...) and see if it works...
With all due respect... and there is respect...

With Nero 6 try Nero Vision Express, Make CD-> VCD or SVCD. I would avoid the menu though (untick under 'More').
