Hi Folks,
after reviewing many tips - and expending much toothpaste & brasso (not to mention an actual repair kit) - I still have 2 DVDs that has damage causing read errors.
I've read the point that DVD players are designed to be able to skip past the odd corrupt frame, so my question is - without trial & error (expensive & time-consuming), does anyone have a feel/experience of just how many contiguous read errors you can ignore before you'll start having noticable problems playing the copy?
I'm using a DVD Decryptor -> DVD Shrink process, which is working well. The former shows how many read errors I'm getting.
Thanks,
Heeb

well.. first of all you could try a rescue app that also tries to save your discs - but it's playability depends greatly on the reader - i had my cheap dvd standalone play really crappy vcd scratched cd-r's but would stutter on a mildly abrased dvd-r... so it's all up to player durability... some are programmed to ignore errors... others choke on them...
With all due respect... and there is respect...
