I'm sure I'm making more than my share of rookie mistakes here, but would appreciate any help in pointing me in the right direction. Have a Plextor 712A installed in a 2.66 Gig Pentium 4 machine with 1 Gig of RAM running Windows XP Pro.

Managed to transfer a DV file from the Canopus ADVC100 using WinDV. Edited the AVI in VirtualDub, saved the edited file using the Panasonic DV Codec and encoded to MPG using TEMPGEnc Plus according to the guide on Lord Smurf's site.

Opened the file in DVD Architect and added chapter points. Attempted to render and burn in DVD Architect, but had problems. Rendering completed just fine, but the process stopped with 8 seconds left in the "Prepare" step when an indecipherable error message popped up.

Then downloaded TMPGEnc DVD Author, opened the MPG file in that and inserted chapter points. Was able to output to VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and attempted to burn from within TEMPGEnc DVD Author. Disc only burned for a few seconds and then I got an error message that only said "BUR". I interpreted that as a buffer underrun and searched the forum here for any guidance. I found another post where someone suggested trying a different burning app.

The only thing I've got left here is Ha! CD Burner (+DVD). Using the folders/files created by TEMPGEnc DVD Author I was able to burn a disc. When I play it I see two problems:

    1. The disc hangs and "hesitates" every so often.

    2. Video seems jerky when there's fast motion like a camera pan, etc. Looks OK at other times. (Should I have used different settings when encoding, or is this related to the burn process as well?

Any and all help is appreciated.

Sorry, forgot to mention that I'm using Taiyo Yuden DVD-R media (TYG01) which, according to DVD Info Pro, is OK for 2X, 4X, 6X or 8X. I was attempting to burn at 8X, but didn't see the drive get over 4 during the burn.
