  1. I recently purchased some "True" 8x media. I have a Plextor 708a burner which will burn 4x media at 8x speed. It got me to wondering, how can I tell if these so called "true"8x media are really 8x. If I set say Nero to burn at 8x or Maxium and put either an older 4x or one of these newer 8x blanks they both burn at the same rate. Since 8x blanks are more costly than 4x ones how would I know if some company just didn't send me some 4x ones knowing they would burn at 8x. I was wondering if there some way to check a blank DVD to see what the "true" burn speed is. I know this a wordy post,I hope you can see what I am talking about.

    Thanks

  2. Use the CDVDInfo tool you can download from the Plextor website. It tells you what speed to burn every disc you put in your drive and is pretty accurate.

    Its free

Gotta love my Plextor 708a, hate their costumer support.

True, 8x will burn in 9minutes and 4x in about 15minutes, but some 4x media will burn at 8x speeds. ukcat was just wondering how he can tell the diff between 'real' 8x media and 4x media that will burn at 8x.
