Are there any dvd recorder (stand alone) that can edit out commercials. Not hard drive recorders or ram drives. Thanks. -garman

  2. You can do this with the Philips / Magnavox recorders and more easily on the Pioneer 220 / 320 units, however they do it in DVD-VR format. This means that if you want to play the disk in another unit, you will need to buy a Panasonic or Pioneer (maybe others) stand alone players which are "RW Compatible"

    Yes.
    Cyberhome CH-DVR 1500 & 2500

Make chapters of the adverts, then "Hide" them.
When done, make the disk "Compatible" to play the dvd+r/rw on a DVD player.

If your player won't play it, than ISO-copy it onto a dvd-r.

I suggest against any DVD+RW editing (tendancy to corrupt IFOs).
If you want to edit, go for DVD-RAM format.

  5. Well, as this post clearly indicated, no DVD-RAM. If you want simple editing features which DON"T require a PC or special format player, go for the Philips / Magnavox.

Cyberhome has some nice features, but I just can't get past the problems which have been reported with this unit...

I usually divide the title(one at the beginning and one at the end of the piece you DONT want)...then delete that title from the RW on my Philips 985. Once I have all of them technically gone from my disc then I take it to the computer. I've only had problems with "deleted" titles showing back up on regular "R" discs once they hit the computer.....and have not had any audio sync issues so far.
Keep in mind my Philips 985 is pretty old and does things a bit differently from the newer models like the 70, 75 and 80's.
