I just bought a new computer and was trying to put DVDShrink 3.16 version on it but I haven't been able to transfer it from my old computer. Therefore I've been looking online to find where I can dowload it, but all I find is the 3.17 version. Does anyone know where I can go to get the 3.16 version? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

nope in my opinion version 3.0 beta 5 is the best to use although it doesn't have the built in nero burn.

I've read a few people metion 3.0 beta 5 being the best, what makes it different to 3.17?

  5. later versions have some pixelization problems. I think this results from what appears to be a sacrifice of quality for speed of transcoding. 3beta5 gets better results IMO but is a fair bit slower. I like the multiple window layour of 3beta5 better as well.

Thanks for the link! By the way, since 3.0 beta 5 version sounds like it might be even better - any help on directing me to where I can find it? Thanks!!!

Oh, never mind - the link that was provided above has the file to download. I'll give that version a try. Thanks again!

Well, I guess I spoke too soon. The link provided above DOES have the 3.1.6 version (which I went ahead and installed on my computer), but the 3.0 Beta 5 version can not be found. When you try that link, it directs you to a 3.1.7 download site. Anyone know where you can find this older version so I can give it a try?

Thanks Hastey!! However, after playing around with the 3.0 Beta 5 version for just a few minutes, I definitely prefer the layout of the 3.1.6 version better. I'll probably stick with 3.1.6, but at least now I know where to find the older versions should I decide to change my mind. Thanks again

Yes no doubt that V3B5 is the best, but sometimes, V3.1.17 rips better.

  11. Hi all.

nickelzy, apart from being more RAM-hungry than v3.0 and older versions, and causing "Copy Protection" errors for some (due to the inclusion of the Nero SDK), I personally find v3.1.7 to be the best DVD Shrink to date.

Even if you're happy with v3.1.6 I'd still suggest you look at the changes/fixes that were made between the two releases.

I think this results from what appears to be a sacrifice of quality for speed of transcoding.
Poppa_Meth, I can assure you no "sacrifices" were made to improve transcoding speed (or for any other reasons).

Have you actually compared v3.0 b5 and v3.1.7 results using the same DVD and settings?

  12. yes I have. I backed up two discs of anime, 6 epsisodes total, about 2.5 hours to one DVD. compression level was about 70%. with 3beta5 the results were excellent as allways. with 3.1.7 there was so much pixelation it was unwatchable.

  13. Could you let me know what theses discs were?

  14. Not sure exactly what you mean, but the anime itself was Descendants of Darkness disc 1 and 2.
The media I was using were Ricoh manufactured Riteks, DVD+R, which I've always had excellent results with. The anime itself has excellent picture quality on the original disc.

  15. ddlooping: Son of the Beach volume 1 disc 1 had a considerable amount of what appeared to be random pixelization. Sometimes on scene transitions, but most of them were just in the middle of a scene for no reason that I could tell.

  16. Thank you both for your replies.

It's definately something dvdshrink - the author - will be informed about.
