text on top timeline - video underneath ..
alpha defaults 100% so you are set .... just add a fade to the txt (click top right hand corner and adjust)"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
if i tell you exactly what i did than you might catch where i made a mistake. this is what i did
1.on the timeline i select the portion where i want the text to be.
2.right click on the selected portion and click insert text media
3.hit "Edit" tab and type "hello"
4.hit "Properties" tab text color is at 100%alpha and bg color is at 0% alphaComputer Spec:

Like BJ_M wrote, you need two video tracks. Put the BG on the bottom track, text on the top track. Also, be sure to select the text box that has a transparent BG. You don't want to use a black BG.

If you haven't already done so.... Right click on the timeline and add a Video Track Put the Text on the top track and the video on the bottom track. By the way how did you get the screen shot of Vegas for posting????

just use print screen and crop in paintshop or mspaint or something ...
vegas 5.0B is out now btw"Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
If you do Alt + Printscreen it will only capture the active window, then you can paste that into Microsoft Paint. (Just a newbie helping where he can!)

i said already above how to do a fade above .... since this is a basic element - i strongly urge you to read the manual or do some tutorials

To do a fade, on the text track, on left of track you will see a blue tab
move the tab to the right. You will see a line over the track thats a fade
marker. Right click it to change the way it fades. -
Trunksu;
Timmychuck is some what right but the location is a bit foggy.... Place your cursor over the top left corner of the Text Pane (the blue triangle) and drag it to the right to the desired fade time. Also do the same with the top right corner as well. If you want to change the actual time of the overall fade in / fade out you will have to go into the Fade Edit Screen. Just click on the Fade Pane and it will appear. I use this program often for my Church & personal Videos, if you care to e-mail me presonally I would be blessed to help you.
