An article on Doom9 says that Ritek will start production this month. But expect a retail price of about 10-15$ per disc at the start.

the drives are priced decently, but the media is still pricey. -
Whats the point of even using them yet? Compatability is a huge issue still and the price is outrageous. Even if you wanted it for data backup its much cheaper to use 2 single layer DVD discs and more reliable also

This is a valid point but some of us with capture cards are looking forward to backing up tapes at higher bit rates. I'll like putting a 8 gig mpg onto a dvd without compresing! (when the prices come down and compatibility goes up

Still, the biggest initial market will be people will a professional need, and enthusiasts who want to make better home videos or something. Thank these early adopters; they're the ones who make it affordable for everyone else a short time later.
