  1. So, here I am and I will buy a new recorder for my home.

I am not going to do editing with the dvd writer.

Here are what I want to do:

    -record tv programs
-schedule recording for tv, not many ones
-record my digital8 tapes from my camera through firewire
    -play dvds, mp3, jpeg
    -need for progressive scan
    -support dvd-rw,dvd-r,cdrw,cdr
-record audio stations from my radio-amplifier

All this by choosing a quality dvd writer that will serve me for years to come.

As far as money, I can give up to 700 euros or a little more.

My question is what recorder to buy?
I think of these: LiteOn 5005 and Jvc Drmh20.
These models have a main difference that jvc has hard disk and Liteon has not.
    The price is different.
I look the jvc because it seems to have everything a normal user want.
On the other hand, Liteon seems to have all the specs I want and many users tell they enjoy it!

I am a bit confused because I have same situation about my laptop. I had an old and good toshiba and now I have an acer

laptop. Japan vs taiwan construction. I am very pleased with my acer too!

I need user opinions and experience from the two brands.
Jvc is an established company we all know for years. I think it makes good products.
From the other hand, new players appear on the market such as Liteon.

I want to make a wise choise, I want to buy something that will not give me troubles.
I also want something that has good quality. Not cheap quality.

What should I go for, Liteon or Jvc?

I would suggest the JVC DRM10SL unit myself.
I have the LiteOn, it's great but not as perfect as the JVC has proven itself.

  3. Your Liteon is ok as I understood.

But do you mean jvc has better quality? Or what?

The price, of course, should be different since one has an 80GB HDD and the other does not. Why not, instead, compare the 5005 to the DR-M10? How much of a price difference is there between those two machines?

  6. So the opinions are positive for jvc.

After that it is difficult to imagine someone to tell me choose liteon.

You help me clear the situation.

I see that Harmony Computers has the Lite ON for about
    $239.
How much is the JVC going for?
Can I buy 3 Lite On's for the price of a JVC?

  8. Price I saw for the 5005 at Harmony was $259 plus $14.95 shipping. For another 30 bucks or so, you can get an M10SL from eCost.

Some points in favor of the Liteon 5005 -
    Ability to write audio CD's
Ability to write to + and - DVD media (JVC just DVD-R/RW)
One-year parts and labor warranty (JVC just 90 days for labor)
Cheaper price for recorder with same chip set as JVC

The biggest flaw of the LiteOn is the random issues with jittery recording. Most see it on fw 1163, hacked or not. I've seen it once, but some see it all the time, some never. To me, that's a risk for only the tech-minded that insist on the LiteOn. They're working on the issue, but no telling how far off that firmware is.

I insisted on a LiteOn, and it has high quality, but this is an issue to be noted. If you get it, and you're not tech-minded, don't mess with the firmware. Test it out thoroughly right away too.

  12. What is the "jittery recording"?
What does this mean in reality?

It means what it says. Jittery. It jitters. Ultra-fast up-down bouncing. Jitter. The image jitters. Jittery.

  14. Oh, jitter is very bad thing.

I could not imagine my old vhs video not jittering and the brand new dvd recorder to jitter image.

They should fix this as soon as possible.

  15. Please respond to me for this:

The jitter of image where it exists, there is from the start to the Liteon? I mean you can watch it from the fist minute?
Or it appears after a few days/months?

It it exists from the very first time the Liteon function. then maybe I could convince a salesman to see the unit in use before I buy it.

If it appears after a while the the risk is very big.

It's random. Normally, the one you buy in stores is on fw 1143. This shold never see any jitter. It's only when you update firmware yourself that you may see jitter. It is random, can happen on any tape, any connector, any signal. THere is not formula for it. Normally, you see it most using s-video on VHS tapes after using hacked fw files.

Buying one in store and not tinkering with it should not show jitter. A few people have reported problems from purchase, but not many, and only in PAL that I've heard.
