As soon as I hit the "ok" button to start TMPGEnc actually converting, after I have designated the output file, it shuts down. Stupid Windows XP just gives me that stupid error message which is about as much help as a glass of water in hell.
I have tried several different files, un-installed, then re-installed it, even tried to start running the conversion without using the wizard. I have no idea what is going on, and can't find any kind of an error log. It is a registered copy btw, if that makes any difference.
Anybody have any suggestions on what might be going on?

Sounds like bad frames in yoiur AVI.
Use Virtualdub mp3 freeze to scan for bad frames and remove any.
Then try again with TMPGenc
