    Hi,
I've ripped a 7.35 DVD (for backup) using MacTheRipper and I want to make it ready to burn using DVD2oneX. Will it be compressed to fit and will I lose much quality if it does? Is there a way to split the DVD and burn it onto two DVD disks? Would that make a difference in quality?
    Thanks, Frances

  2. Yes, DVD2oneX will compress your rip to fit on one recordable DVD, with little to no apparent loss of quality.

I thought DVD2oneX would split your rip over multiple disks, but I can't find that feature now. But that feature sounds very familiar, so I know it's available via some commonly used Mac app...

  3. DVD2OneX does indeed let you split a disc into smaller halves.

In the flyout menu for AUDIO/SUBTITLES, there is also a tab for CELL/CHAPTER/LAYERS. One very easy way to split a large title is to select the first layer (if there is a layer break, you should see two different entries, with a check box for each one). Or you can select the first group of chapters that total less than your destination disc size, and process that. Select the remaining chapters and process for your second disc. Voila.

Running the VIDEO_TS folder in DVD Player can be useful for finding a good chapter break that doesn't hit in the middle of a cliff-hanging scene.

I feel like DVD2OneX's cheerleader today.

Well, it is a great programme, as is MacTheRipper. Instructions dead simple, and both work like a dream, at least for me.
    Thanks, folks.

I tried to split a DVD into 2 disks, first i selected layer 1 and then layer 2, when i previewed the 2 they were the exact same thing two copies of the whole movie minus some menus.

    what am i doing wrong?

  6. Hard to know what went wrong. Can you select individual chapters (e.g., 1 through 10) to make disc A, and then the rest of the chapters for disc B?

Maybe the technology is different on some discs' layer markers.
