  1. At the moment there are only DVD writers with support DVD+R DL later ther will be DVD-R DL writers. Has somebody perhaps read if there will be DVD writers which support DVD-RW DL or DVD+RW DL. My brother has read that bdouble layer rewritable DVD's will never exist because layer skip is only possible with DVD-R DL or DVD+R DL, am I right ???

Just as information. End of 2004 Kiss will release an DVD recorder with harddisk 80 GB and TV tuner where you can store files (shows) in Mpeg1 ,Mpeg2 or Mpeg4 !! Later you can when you want, transfer the recorded show from its harddisk to DVD-R/RW on the kiss recorder. I think at the moment only single layer recording will be supported. Storing in mpeg4 on harddisk or DVD that will be great (also if only on single layer I think you can store 4 hours on a DVD in good divx quality). The name of the recorder will be: KISS DP-678

The real technical challenge for double-layer rewritable DVD media is that laser reflectivity is already low on the single-layer media, so even if the double-layer rewritable media are technically possible (but may not be cost-effective), most current-generation DVD drives/players won't be able to read them for sure.

    Similar Q&A is here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=96656

LG has released a DVD+R/+RW/-R/-RW standalone recorder in South Korea. LG has traditionally only supported DVD-RAM and DVD-R/-RW. LG also released DVD and HD recorders with built-in HDD and memory card reader in the past.

Personally, I would like a recorder that has 10TB HDD storage that's compatible with HD-DVD, DVD, WMV, DivX, CD, and everything else. I can build one but that will look very ugly.

Shouldn't be that ugly if you throw it in an APC NetShelter (you'll probably need it to fit 10TB of high speed storage). Get a long enough network cable and well cooled closet and VOILA!
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.
