Ok, I've got a modded Xbox, a HDD installed that can hold a rhino, a hippo, 2 octopi
, and about 12 DVDs (well, maybe just the last one...), and I've even got a 100 mb connection from Xbox to my PC. My problem is that I'm new to the ripping/encoding scene, and I am trying to use GK or, if possible, AutoGK. Now, the exact problem I'm having is that, as far as I know, AutoGK REQUIRES the use of DVDencrypter, which I have no moral problem with, but my PC seems to think DVDencrypter is a devil worshiper
,a KKK member, or maybe a commie (it's not too specific about it). In any event, I am unable to make files larger then 4 gigs due to my FAT32 partitioning (I think FAT32 would be the cause of that, anyway), and so I can not create a mountable ISO for DVDencrypter to, er, de-encrypt.
On the other end of the spectrium, I seem to be mentaly dis-abled, as even with a great toutorial (which also mentions DVDencrypter), I can not seem to get (non auto) GK to work either.
To the best of my knowlege, the program I used to rip the film in question (DVD2Xbox I think is the name) rips all the information off of the DVD (a bunch of .VOBs, various .IFOs, and even some other files).
So, the question I ask is this: Am I screwed without DVDencrypter? Or is there a way to "trick" AutoGK into thinking the disc was ripped in .IFO mode? Or can someone send Super Man to my house to rip it for me, with his heat vision (common, that's GOTTA be lasers, it's the same idea, right?)and a typewriter (at least something to mark down the 1s and 0s)?
Or am I just screwed 'till I get up the scratch to buy a DVD drive for my computer?
Oh, I should mention, I only have about 11 gigs of available space on my PCs HDD.
Ok, thank you for reading (at least any who still are, if you're not still reading, then *BLEGH* to you!), and (hopefully) thank you for answering in advance.
Oh, incase I wasn't clear enough at the top, I am a(sorry, I just LOVE the emoticon)

Trust me, I wouldn't be bothering you guys if I hadn't already tried there.
The only toutorial I could locate there ALSO involved DVDecrypter.
Thank you for the prompt reply, though."Gratuitous complexity is akin to chaos" - True Vox -
Thank you! I'll give it a go! I hope I have better luck with this then I did with SimpleDivX (the audio was about 15 secs outta wack).

This tutorial tells all:
http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/autogk.htm
You use DVD Decrypter to rip the vob files from the DVD. You don't need a mountable ISO. AutoGK then converts the vob files to an avi.
I use AutoGK with the xvid option set to 1400mb size with AC3 soundtrack & am very pleased with the result. -
Correct, Topher! Sorry, this is my fault. I was not very clear. I am useing an Xbox to do the ripping, as I do not possess a DVD drive for my computer. But I still think everything rips. I mean, what more is there on a DVD then .VOB files, .IFO files, and (at least in the case of the one I'm ripping), some .BUP files?
On another note, DVDx seems great, but when I click on the pass settings, nothing happens. Does that mean I have a bad XviD pack?
On another 'nother note, is there an easy way to add "Splash Screens" to an AVI, after it's been encoded (or, prefribly, AS it's being encoded)?
Any way, thanks alot, everyone (what a kind community this is)!
Also, what does this "whickity whack" mean? I presume it's a bad thing?"Gratuitous complexity is akin to chaos" - True Vox -
Try DVD2XBOX or XBcommander for ripping and play using XBMC
Just shut up and listen dumbass -
Well, I haven't tried XBcommander, but as I said in my original post, I DO in fact use DVD2Xbox. What a WONDERFUL program!!! BUT - sadly, it does not include such a minor thing as Mpeg 1 encoding codexs (nor does it have even a one bay kitchen sink. *sigh*), let alone the latest and greatest of XviD. So what I need is something (such as DVDx, assumeing it would function as it says it does, which it doesn't, because my computer is apperently evil) to encode the raw .VOBs, .IFOs, etc. that DVD2Xbox rips.
In the picture below you will see the highlighted area has the pass one and pass two options:
I assume that the normal state of things is when pass X is clicked on, a nice little screen pops up outta nowhere and let's you edit what happens on pass X. For me, it does nothing. I click the button once, it just sits there, mocking me. I click it a hundred more times, it is as stoic as ever, just sitting there, doing nothing.
Now, I figured this was a problem with my codex (rember, I'm an uber-noober), and so I downloaded (as near as I can tell) the latest and greatest XviD codex (XviD-1.0.1-05062004.exe, 617 kb), installed it, and *POOF* same thing. Ok, so I didn't need the *POOF*, what ever. Maybe I like the *POOF*....
At anyrate, I'm CLEARLY WAY TOO DUMB for this stuff, but I REALLY wanna keep trying. I've already read the DVDx guide (made by some Alphonz guy, maybe, I can't recall exacly), BUT if you think I maybe missed something, please point out to me my numbness.
Once more, thanks to everyone for holding my hand as I attempt to take my first flight from the nest, so to speak."Gratuitous complexity is akin to chaos" - True Vox -
Get XBMC(xbox media centre) and look at the read me, you can download codec packs for XBMC including the newest divx/xvid codecs and play anything you've ripped or ftp'd to the xbox HDD including divx/xvid avi. You can find all of these things(except the codec packs) including DVDx2 on IRC by getting on to efnet and joining #xbins.
Just shut up and listen dumbass -
Thank you Ziffelpig, but viewing them's not the problem (perhaps my newness has me using the term "Codex" when I mean "Thing that converts ripped .VOBs into an XviD", furthermore, I was turned onto XBMC a little while ago, and WOW is it good). Nay, sadly, at the moment, the problem lies in CONVERTING them, and please forgive this noob for leading you astray in your attempt to be of aid.
And Chicola, I did a five minute scan of the manual that came with the program, and you may be right. At least, I did not see the XviD codex mentioned in there. But if memory serves (which it does not as often as it does), Alphonz DID speak of it in his toutorial. Is there any chance he was offering information in error?
At any rate, thank you all for your support, and I look forward to your continuing suggestions."Gratuitous complexity is akin to chaos" - True Vox
