  1. Just bought a new Sony CRT HD-ready TV and I am shopping for a newer progressive scan DVD player.

I am in Toronto, Canada and the local Costco here sells the Koss KS-3120-2. What do you think? Any suggestions?

  2. Well, it might help us if you tell us what you are looking for in a dvd player, unless all you care about is the Koss dvd player you mentioned before.

Do you want the ability of playing back dvd audio or sacd? VCD? SVCD? Do you want to be able to turn of macrovision, or make it a region free player?

    Are you concerned with DVD-R/RW and/or DVD+R/RW?

Are you looking for the best bang for the buck, or is money no object?

These kind of things will get you a whole bunch of responses from people who want the same thing you do. Elaborate a little more, then watch the responses starting to flow in!

  3. I would like my new DVD player to be able to play regular DVD, VCD, SVCD, DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW, etc. It would be great if it can be made region-free.

Of course, the usual niceties like good picture and sound.

I would definitely go for a recordable DVD player in 1-2 years when the price stabilizes.

  6. I own a Toshiba SD-4900 progressive scan DVD player. I bought it for under $100 last year at Best Buy, and I think you can get it now at Amazon.com for $79 if you hurry, as it's last year's model.

It can be hacked to play back SVCD's and to become region free. Read at this web page under DVD hacks how do to this.

The player comes able to play back VCD's, DVD-R, and DVD Audio with the analog outputs. I have personally played back DVD+R and RW with no problem.

I don't believe there is a macrovision hack for this player.

    My 2 cents.
