well you can (but its a pain) -- but you are MUCH better off getting local insurance to avoid a lot of red tape ...
plus it usually cheaper to hire a local care or buy one there -- as long as small car ... depends in what country ...
lot of laws./restrictions to cover all that ..."Each problem that I solved became a rule which served afterwards to solve other problems." - Rene Descartes (1596-1650) -
So far problem is that they will not insure car that is registred in US. It will have to be registred locally.

If you are a member of the armed forces I believe you can license your vehicle through them if you're bringing it to Europe. Otherwise some American insurance companies will insure vehicles overseas but at high cost to you. You also need to stay a resident of the US while you insure the vehicle in the US.

Car is shipped and I will pick it up in EU....
Does anybody know American insurance companies that will insure vehicles overseas. Even at high cost. I could find one that does it in Slovakia.Pinnacle Studio 8 and DV home video editing (ver.9 already home) -

I spend an hour on the phone with them. They claim on their website that that cover over 200 countries. But in reality, I believe it is bullshit. They don't cover any of the old eastern block countries that are part of Europian Union now, like Slovakia, Poland, Hungary, Czech Republic. When I asked them if they can provid me the list of 200 countries they refused. Plenty of different excuses so I guess it's all bull. List is not on their website. They cover only couple major countries and that's it. They were willing to tell me if they cover specific country that I am interested in but that's it. Can you imagine ??? Which 200 ??? United Nations have 191 members.Originally Posted by BJ_M

Progressive does, but you might run into similar problems like Geico. I know they insure in England and France.
Anyone know if Lloyd's of London insures internationally for cars? I think they might and would be covered in most all european countries.

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to buy a used car there or maybe rent one?Originally Posted by donpedro"Terminated!" :firing:

Thayne, you know better than to ask that. He could be a rich snot that wants to show off a US license plate while cruising through Europe. I'd do the same just to freak people out when the driver is on the other side of the car. "Who's driving!"Originally Posted by thayne
Also show them what a real American car looks like. Pull up next to a Britt in your TOYOTA!

I'd love to cruise europe in a '70 426 Hemi 'Cuda, metallic purple, with headers and a remote dump valve. Loud enough to wake the dead and send the livestock into cardiac arrest. I'd see many tickets in my futureOriginally Posted by Doramius

This sounds like if somebody is asking "Which software should use with my DVD Writer ?" and your answer is "Buy different DVD Writer ?". :P That is not what I asked .... I didn't ask if it is cheaper to buy used car or rentOriginally Posted by thayne

I did in Australia using Progressive, but that doesn't help in Europe. I said to try Lloyd's of London because I knew a co-worker at the time I was AU that was also from the US and did the same thing using Lloyd's. We did it because or work said we had to. Don't really know the reason why, and I didn't really care to ask. I had better gas mileage than many of the AU cars.Originally Posted by donpedro

Save you shipping and since the cost of gas over there is over $5 a gallon save you a lot of $$ too"Terminated!" :firing: -
I like mine. Never worry about traffic, potholes, light floods, or finding a parking space.
