  1. Hi,

A friend give to me a scratched dvd to try to backup it.
I use dvd decrypter to rip it (with read errors it takes 3 hours to rip the dvd with 9 unrecoverable read error).

So, I tried to play the copy in my compter and it works fine (just some artifacts in the place where the disc is scratched).

To get Higher quality, I decided to remove all the extras by blanking the vobs with vobblanker.

This is where the problem happens: when vobblanker process the damaged vob (unfortunately it on the main movie ) I got this message: "Error reading input VOB: Unsynchronised". When I click OK, the process stops

Is there a way to repair the damaged vob file (it's the VTS_01_05.vob) in order to backup the disc ????

    thanks.

Have you tried to repair the damaged disk with a light abrasive like white toothpaste or Brasso, then polish with Armorall?
    Hello.

  3. You can also take the DVD to a disc repair company (literally translated this from Spanish, not sure what they are called in English). It only costs 5 euros per disc over here. Compare this to 2-3 euros for a good quality DVDR, I find repairing the original a better option. And if you have 10 or more discs to repair you can bargain to 4 euros per disc or less.
Try also your local DVD rentals store. They may have the machine and if you're a good customer maybe you can ask them for a favour and fix your disc for free.

  4. I think repairing the disk is very hard because the scratch is very deep and it's on the upper side of the disc (side with the label) and when I look at the disk placed in front of a light, it seems that the reflexive layer is damaged, so I repair is useless i think.

This is why I was asking if it exist a software that can fix vobs (like the ac3fix tool).

  5. If you think the disc is damaged to a point where it can't be repaired, then no software will help you either. It can't magically extract data from a physically damaged sector.
Try some other tools to make a movie only copy. Maybe one of them will manage to ignore the missing sectors.
If none does it and the movie only is less than 4.7G then you can do a new "movie only" DVD yourself with whatever VOBs you managed to extract. Delete all VTSs except the one of the movie (VTS_01) and also delete the VIDEO_TS.VOB file. If what's left is less than 4.7G you can make it into a "movie only" playable DVD. You need a bit of knowledge of IfoEdit though. In the first-play PGC in the VIDEO_TS.IFO file put just one command JumpTT 1 (but check first if Title 1 is your movie; 99% of the time it is but it doesn't have to be; the longest title is normally the movie). Then delete/NOP any commands in the PGC of the movie in the VTS_01_0.IFO file. Test it before burning though. And don't touch the title or the menu button on the remote while playing (or put a resume command in the title menu PGC and the root menu PGC so that if you do, nothing happens).
