  1. Long story short...I'm converting (S)VCD --> DVD and I've always used MainConcept to do this. Like many others, I've frequently had problems with A/V sync which gets progressively worse as the movie plays on. So after browsing around this site I found a program called svcd2dvd and gave that method a try. Everything worked great and I burned the DVD...but here's the catch...the DVD only plays on certain DVD players. Out of 7 DVD players in my house...3 play the DVD fine and 4 won't play it at all. The 4 that won't play it say something like, "Playback prohibited due to region restrictions" or something like that. I assume this is because the SVCD that I started with was encoded as PAL. Is there any way around this? I hope so...this is such a great program and the fact that it saves time and space on re-encoding would be such a waste if not. Thanks in advance for any help!

  2. I am having similar probs with ROTK. It's not because it's region restricted I think it's just because it's PAL. Any help would be great

  3. Tyler...there's no doubt that it's because of the file being PAL. After doing some reading, it looks like re-encoding to NTSC is the only answer for those DVD players that won't play them. Some DVD players (3 out of 7 in my case) convert PAL to NTSC on the fly and they play fine. Which leaves 2 options as far as I can see...

    1) Convert to NTSC, hope for the best as far as A/V sync goes
    2) Buy a DVD player that supports both

I'm going to try running the file through svcd2dvd, then converting the demuxed video stream to NTSC using MainConcept. The audio stream will remain untouched since svcd2dvd will have already converted it to 48000. I'll then let TMPGEnc DVD Author multiplex the files and create my DVD files and we'll see how it goes.
