Hi, guys Im having a problem with movies that are 2 hrs. and over. For instance I reauthored "Paycheck" and took out everything except the 5.1 Audio English. Well I turned it into a ISO, and then burned with DVD Decrypter.. I used DVD Shrink 3.17 to reauthor.. it plays but till like after a certain chapter it wont play no more.. Wondering if Im doing something wrong? Im burning at 2.4x with HP and using Imation DVD+R 4x. I compress till like 85% or 78%... its below.. its at green bar.. What could it be? Could it be the movie is too long or what? Could it be the dvd burner..The same goes for Samurai.. Please help me out.. Only have success with movies below 2 hrs....

Imation and Great Quality.....yes the files play correctly on the pc, but havent tried the disc in the pc...could it be I need to change my preferences... to Custom and put in different size of MB, or no? Maybe my burner needs a upgrade.. cuz I dont think it has been upgraded..

But you say cheap media has problems.. Well im able to burn movies below 2 hrs. perfectly and nothing wrong with them....

  4. Cheap DVD media have problems burning all the way to the edge. I found this out the hard way. After DVD Shrink automatically sets the compression percentage for you, set to manual and compress another percent or two to reduce the file size a bit more and that may work. Otherwise, buy name brand media. Fuji has worked for me and goes on sale at Best Buy from time to time.

Could be that the movies below 2 hours aren't burning to the edge of the disk.

Go to preferences in DVD Shrink and select a smaller size (I use 4250 or 4300).

one thing at a time. run DVDshrink and then play the files it writes to your HDD with powerDVD, check it's all there. now burn a DVD. again check the disc in your PC. now, check it in your DVD player. if the files on HDD play, and the disc in the PC play, it's a media issue. if the HDD files and disc in PC don't play to the end, there's a problem with dvdshrink. let us know what does and doesn't work.

Exactly- it's set to shink the DVD to 4464- which will burn right to the edge of the DVD. But if the DVD starts out smaller than 4464 (which includes many movies under 2 hours) then it will not change the size.

You have to select custom (the drop down box where it says DVD-5. Then select a smaller size for Shrink to compress to.

(I use 4250 or 4300). you say you use that... so If I put either those two then my 2 hrs. and over movies will play then? help me here with that..
Did you read.. I said 2 hrs. and over not below..... I can burn the movies below 2 hrs. perfectly, nothing wrong with them. but with movies over start 2 hrs and over.... then they tend to have problems...

Imation aren't necessarily cheap media but your drive may not like them.

  12. GQ, "Great Quality" from Fry's Electronics, however, ARE junk media. Search this forum, you'll read a ton of complaints about read problems near the end of the disc. . .

Imation can be cheap too, when the discs are made by CMC.

I've seen a lot of respectable companies lately producing discs with CMC dye.

I bought a 100-spindle of HP 4x discs, and they're all CMC. I'm tempted to take the spindle back, but so far my Liteon has been burning them just fine so I'm not TOO worried ... but my old Plextor wouldn't have even burnt them PERIOD... so...
